Museumsinsel Hombroich
Information and Wayfinding System

Museumsinsel Hombroich

Less system, more approach: At Museumsinsel Hombroich, orientation and information are derived from the place itself — simple, flexible and consistently reduced.

The world does not always have to be reinvented: Existing surfaces that are suitable for permanent and temporary inscriptions are marked on site with the simplest means. Painted with white paint, tree trunks and stones become signposts, and inscribed glass surfaces in windows and doors become temporary information boards. The installation is carried out by the museum staff themselves, using laser-cut stencils of adhesive film and paint. There is no need for complicated and expensive constructions. Information is applied as needed and removed by washing. Consistent ease of use, aesthetic simplicity in symbiosis with the philosophy and habitus of a unique place – the Museum Insel Hombroich.
