As part of the comprehensive redesign of the permanent exhibitions—(see: Welt im Wandel and Der Neandertaler & seine Zeit)—we developed an integrative and clear wayfinding and orientation system for the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn. The design focuses on maximum reduction and functional elegance: crisp black typography and precise pictograms applied directly onto the architecture blend seamlessly into the bright, minimalist spaces without competing with the exhibits. Through a deliberate structural layout by floor and the selective use of subtle color codes (as seen in the exhibition areas "This World and the Next" or "Market and Power"), the system ensures intuitive visitor navigation. While visually understated, it provides reliable guidance exactly where needed, allowing for a fluid and effortless museum experience. The system maintains a subtle visual presence, yet provides reliable orientation precisely where the visitor needs it – ensuring a fluid and effortless museum experience. It blends harmoniously into the architecture and guarantees clear, accessible wayfinding through the multi-layered exhibition areas. It accommodates all aspects of accessibility, including audio guides and tactile paving paths throughout the entire building.
