The new permanent exhibition invites visitors on a fascinating journey through 2,000 years of art and cultural history along the Rhine. High-quality exhibits—ranging from sculptures and paintings to precious handicrafts—are showcased in beautifully designed, climate-controlled, and alarmed vitrines. Each object is embedded in its historical context and linked to contemporary life. Thanks to a modular exhibition design, content can easily be updated to reflect new scientific discoveries or social developments.

Blending traditional museum displays with modern digital features, the exhibition is designed for a broad audience. Interactive stations, a media guide app, and Augmented Reality (AR) encourage younger visitors to playfully explore masterpieces, such as the paintings displayed in a historic "Salon hanging" style. Active visitor participation is the defining element of the "Museum of the Future." Here, the exhibition bridges the gap to the present day by directly involving the audience. Visitors actively shape the space by using tablets to contribute their perspectives on current and future issues, with their collective responses projected live onto the wall as interactive infographics. Adjacent workstations provide additional space to deepen this participatory approach through programs for groups and school classes.

At the heart of the redesign is true accessibility based on "Design for All" principles. An intuitive guidance system featuring tactile flooring indicators (according to DIN standards) helps visually impaired visitors navigate the galleries safely. In addition, multi-sensory stations with touch-and-smell objects, alongside Braille and raised lettering, make the content tangible for everyone. The accessible media guide app rounds out the inclusive experience with guided audio tours in Plain Language and Sign Language.
