Kunsthalle St. Annen
500 Years of the Monastery – 100 Years of the Museum

Kunsthalle St. Annen

500 Years of the Monastery, 100 Years of the Museum: This special exhibition tells the remarkable story of St. Anne’s House and invites visitors to explore five centuries of Lübeck’s history through concerts, themed activity days, and talks.

An unusual house is at the centre of the exhibition: 500 years ago, the daughters of wealthy Lübeck merchants moved into the newly built St Annen Monastery. Later it became an orphanage, a workhouse and a prison. The building has been used as a museum for 100 years. This double anniversary – 500 years of monastery, 100 years of museum – is the occasion for a special exhibition. It tells the story of the building from the start of construction to the foundation of the museum and is also a precursor to the following exhibition „Lübeck 1500“. Art metropolis in the Baltic region. The exhibition will be accompanied by numerous concerts, action days and talks with visitors.
