Erlebniszentrum Naturgewalten Sylt
Forces of the North Sea – Interactive Exhibition with a 360° Panoramic Cinema

Erlebniszentrum Naturgewalten Sylt

Wonder, Explore, Understand: Through interactive exhibits, hands-on experiments, and immersive 360° experiences, the exhibition brings the forces of the North Sea to life in an engaging and playful way—from dunes to the deep sea.

The center perceives itself as a seismographic space for the future. Sustainability forms its core foundation—conceptually as a passionate plea for coastal and species conservation, and architecturally rooted in a building that breathes in harmony with the elements via geothermal and solar energy. Those who grasp the complex symbiosis of storm and life here leave with a renewed awareness of the vulnerability of our oceans. True to this mission, the exhibition was built using sustainable materials and robust, long-lasting technology.

The forces of nature know no barriers, and neither does this exhibition. Designed as an inclusive, barrier-free experience for all generations, the center breaks away from traditional museum conventions. A sophisticated multi-sensory approach featuring tactile relief maps, hands-on exhibits, and a dedicated audio guide system ensures that knowledge becomes tangibly accessible to everyone independently.
This is a place to marvel at the raw power of the North Sea: visitors can manipulate shifting sand dunes, steer currents, or control real water inside an interactive wave tank paired with an immersive sound collage. Films like "Living with the Forces of Nature" and a live webcam feed to the seal banks off List demonstrate firsthand how flora and fauna endure salt, storms, and tides. The ultimate highlight is the "Syltdome," a 360-degree panoramic cinema that catapults the senses straight into roaring North Sea storms and takes audiences on a virtual submarine dive into the ocean depths.

A tailored program for children and teenagers turns natural sciences into pure entertainment. A playful discovery trail begins outdoors, leading young guests past talking audio stations into the heart of the center, where interactive quiz terminals and exciting science shows await them.
