Large-scale Corten steel installations act as time windows into the past, directing the gaze onto archaeological finds, while a striking viewing platform highlights the historic frontier position on the Limes.
Breathed into life with minimal intervention, the exhibition concept by nowakteufelknyrim seamlessly integrates into the historic landscape. The unique harmony of parkland and archaeological remains is framed at key points by large Corten steel installations. Acting as "time windows" into the Roman past, these elements symbolize the original gates to the historic structures. Rather than obstructing the view like traditional information boards, they focus the visitor's gaze directly on the ruins. In keeping with archaeological preservation, the original findings remain untouched; instead, integrated texts, illustrations, and audio stations bring the former fort back to life. The new entrance building serves as a prominent landmark and watchtower: a high-level viewing platform offers a commanding view of the geostrategically vital Limes frontier position once defended by the Roman cohort. The structural execution of this concept was carried out in cooperation with Neumann & Heinsdorf Architects.
