On the 500th anniversary of the Reinheitsgebot (German Beer Purity Law), the exhibition tells the cultural history of beer, from production and advertising to its social significance.
The exhibition celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Reinheitsgebot (German purity law) and shows not only how beer has been brewed over the centuries, but also how it has been advertised and the importance of beer as an image factor for the Federal Republic of Germany.
Technical, social and cultural history go hand in hand in the history of beer. „What man does with beer and what beer does with man“ is the central theme of the exhibition’s concept, which also includes the aspects of intoxication and addiction as well as alcohol prevention. Many interactive hands-on stations invite visitors to experience beer and its effects on society and health in a different way. For example, visitors can brew their own beer, design packaging and labels, go on a journey through beer drinking sayings from all over the world or recognise the health-promoting effects of beer in a digital mirror image. In this exhibition, the beer crate, an everyday object, becomes the supporting element of the exhibition architecture. In the double sense!
3,300 plastic beer crates become the stage for more than 300 remarkable exhibits.
