Within the historic listed library, the University of Bonn is staged as a showcase of science, featuring personal portraits, interactive tables, and an engaging journey through the past, present, and future of research.
The Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn is one of the most traditional and important universities in Germany. The museum sees itself as a “ window to science “ and focuses on the university’s eventful history and outstanding scientific achievements. At the same time, it reflects the unity of science and research. The listed library was used as a stage for the new exhibition: New exhibition modules were integrated into the existing shelving in an unobtrusive, informative and aesthetically pleasing manner. Along the chronological axis of the exhibition, visitors encounter outstanding personalities of the university from different eras. Life-size portraits enter into a dialogue with the visitor. On large display cases reminiscent of desks, visitors can experience the outstanding scientific achievements of these personalities through personal notes, experiments and exhibits.
In addition to the individual scientific achievements, the history of the University is also presented chronologically. Hundreds of video portraits of students and lecturers show just how varied and exciting the university is today. New portraits are added every semester. An interactive media station offers a glimpse into the future: current scientific issues that will be researched at the University in the near future.
