Everyone wants a home. But „affordable“ housing has become scarce for a large part of our society.
And not just since more and more people have been immigrating to Germany. The exhibition architecture „Everyone wants to live. Fair. Social. Affordable‘ examines housing then and now in all its complexity: Social changes, new lifestyles, demands and expectations. The exhibition not only shows successful, affordable housing architecture of the recent past, but understands the housing issue as a pressing social question, the answer to which contributes decisively to social cohesion.
In five buildings, the exhibition explores various facets of living in an unusual way: The „own four walls“ and the „roof over one’s head“ are formally questioned.
The classic image of the house is distorted, twisted and put out of kilter. The boundary between inside and outside, between private and public, is questioned by the distortion and unusual openings in the houses. Associations such as cell, wabe or kokon arise – or is it rather the wind-sheltered tent of an emergency shelter?
The five houses will tour Germany from 2016 to 2020. Each exhibition location has its own requirements for the positioning and arrangement of the theme houses: Whether elongated or more square, the five houses unfold their effect in any space. See also NRW Chamber of Architects
