Even 2,000 years ago, the Rhineland was a melting pot where diverse population groups came together.
The LVR-LandesMuseum showcases the variety of people and cultures along the Roman frontier, the Limes. How did people live and work in the military camps and civilian settlements? How were they connected by land, by water, and across the “wet border”? Votive stones, grave monuments, wall paintings, and everyday objects not only tell of people’s origins but also provide insights into their private lives.

The exhibition presents a wealth of fascinating archaeological finds. A large interactive model of the Limes, along with films and media stations, brings the ancient sites on the edge of the Roman Empire vividly to life. Expansive infographics and visual charts offer visitors a lively picture of the era. An interactive topographic model of the Lower Germanic Limes illustrates the Roman infrastructure along the Rhine.
For the exhibition, a specially designed, room-sized interactive relief model of the Lower Germanic Limes was created. It spectacularly demonstrates the infrastructure of the frontier at that time. Additional in-depth knowledge is provided by pull-out drawers containing infographics and original Roman artifacts.
