A wayfinding system that does more than point the way: intuitive pictograms reveal the cultural diversity of Düsseldorf’s city centre at a glance.
The signage system combines urban design discretion with signal effect and guides people to museums, theatres and architectural sights in Düsseldorf’s city centre. In addition to the guidance, the diverse cultural offers are put into the focus of pedestrians and tourists: Instead of words, internationally understandable pictograms are used to indicate the destinations. In contrast to conventional signage systems, wayfinding and overview maps are combined on a single element. This unusual trick allows the user to obtain information about the location and surroundings at any point. From a technical point of view, the system is particularly resistant to weather conditions, UV radiation and vandalism.
