Farewell to the forest of signs: Just like the blank page at the beginning of a book, a signage system begins with a blank wall.
In the University and State Library, featuring expansive functional zones, quiet study areas, and millions of media resources, a stringent information architecture is essential. The system guides all visitors to their various destinations within the building, contributing to a focused and calm spatial atmosphere through its clarity.
The system deliberately dispenses with additional backing panels or traditional signage, utilizing the existing architecture to display information instead. To help visitors quickly understand the building's layout, the overview maps were designed to ensure that even dense information is easily and effortlessly legible. The typography is applied directly onto the wall surfaces along the visual axes of the main thoroughfares. Thanks to the intentionally large-scale lettering, the system is perfectly readable even from a distance. In selecting materials, particular emphasis was placed on a cost-effective implementation combined with maximum durability.
